When you book with us to complete your RYA Coastal Skipper, Devon provides the ultimate starting location for you. With our base conveniently located within a 5-minute taxi ride from Plymouth mainline train station, we are easily accessible from London, Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol and Exeter.

This RYA Coastal Skipper course offers advanced skippering techniques for yachtsmen and women with considerable knowledge of sailing and navigation wanting to undertake coastal passages by day and night. Each trainee will skipper more demanding passages and develop their passage planning skills. Potential sailing locations for these challenges include Fowey, Helford River, Falmouth, Isles of Scilly, Salcombe, Dartmouth and the River Yealm. Because you will be expected to undertake pilotage by day and night, boat handling, safety and emergency situations as part of your RYA Coastal Skipper, Devon offers perfect sailing ground for you to develop these skills.

Upon booking your RYA Coastal Skipper, Devon Sailing Experiences offer you the advantage of your own double cabin aboard our modern, spacious yacht. The facilities at our base location, King Point Marina (Plymouth), are maintained to the highest standard for your comfort. With 12 private wet rooms, washing and tumble drying facilities, free wifi connection and a free book library, you will immediately feel at home with the amenities on offer and the help of the friendly,  welcoming staff.

To support you in developing your passage planning skills for RYA Coastal Skipper, Devon offers a fabulous range of sailing locations – each with their own unique challenges: The Isles of Scilly require skippers to keep a constant lookout for rocks hidden from view and a keen eye on the weather when considering anchorages; The River Yealm has a strong tide and the bar on the approach requires good timing to access and leave your anchorage; The Salcombe bar can become dangerous with an ebbing tide and strong southerly wind. These locations offer ample opportunities for learning and development during your RYA Coastal skipper in Devon, as well as spectacular scenery and sailing ground.

For whichever destination you choose to plot your course towards, you will find a friendly, Devon and Cornish welcome upon going ashore, with plenty of local pubs and restaurants to visit during your training.

Devon Sailing Experiences is rated a 5-star sailing experience company on TripAdvisor, making us the ideal choice when booking your RYA Coastal Skipper in Devon.
