This RYA Start Yachting course provides a short introduction to sailing for complete beginners with the added advantage of stunning sailing ground, a sheltered bay and high-quality yachts.

By the end of the course, you will have experienced steering a yacht, sail handling, ropework and be aware of safety on board. Holders of the RYA Start Yachting certificate can go on to complete the RYA Competent Crew course in a reduced time of three days or two weekends.

When undertaking sailing for beginners training with Devon Sailing Experiences, not only will you be working to achieve your RYA Start Yachting qualification along the beautiful Devon and Cornwall coastline, you will have the opportunity to visit some of the most sought-after locations in the south-west.

Upon your arrival at King Point Marina, Plymouth, you will be met by your skipper and crew then taken aboard your high quality, modern yacht. Onboard, you will find your own double cabin which will be your home for the next couple of nights. Within your small, contemporary marina you will find clean, private and well-maintained shower and washing facilities. Its location (just a 5-minute taxi ride from Plymouth mainline train station) makes it convenient to walk to Royal William Yard and The Barbican where you will find a selection of local pubs and restaurants. Alternatively, you may choose to visit The Dock which is a lovely restaurant located above the marina.

When considering a course which involves sailing for beginners, Devon provides a perfect location; Plymouth Sound offers picturesque coves as well as a sheltered bay, making it an ideal location to learn and perfect your new skills. Within this short RYA sailing course, you may choose to head east to the small but buzzing town of Salcombe, west to the quaint town of Fowey, or stay within the shelter of Plymouth Sound and head to the peaceful and beautiful River Yealm.
